Gear of the year
Our Friends over at Torke Racing (San Bartolo) were keen to hear that I needed some 2-Stroke Bikes for some Clients that were coming in. Davico, one of the owners and an avid Hard Enduro Enthusiasts, wanted me to try his Sons Sherco SE 300 2021. How could I say no to that? Those of you that are new to our page, may not know, but we come usually ride 4-Stroke 450cc Bikes in the Desert. So even when we get technical and do some Hard Enduro like stuff, it has always been on those bikes. Experiencing a Set-Up meant for Hard Enduro was something to get used to, but a lot of fun! After riding 4-strokes for so long, you get used to the powerband, handling and so on. Thing become more automatic. With the Sherco I had to constantly pay attention to what I was doing and how the Bike would respond. It had me immersed in trying to become one with the bike! I also noticed the difference in weight and the way it impacted my riding style: Although I can ride everything with the KTM 450 EXC or even the 500 EXC, these 2-Strokes make it so much more fun! A difficult section becomes fun challenge, since the Bike is easier to handle. Also, in case you don’t make it up a Section, its easier to recover the bike too!
Of course there’s the powerband… Love it or hate it, however you feel about it, 100% guaranteed it is a challenge to get used to. Just like it would be a bit of a challenge to go from a 2-Stroke to a 4-Stroke. I like a new challenge and am looking forward to getting a 2 Smoker soon!
